INTERACTIVE DVD INSTALLATIONS

The Gulf Coast Museum of Art collects contemporary art and fine crafts created primarily by artists living and working in America's south east. After receiving a grant from a private foundation for the purpose of creating and deploying interactive video kiosks throughout the galleries, they contacted us.

Over the next ten months, we produced a series of Artist Profiles. We travelled Florida interviewing artists, filming their work and them at work. Each piece was edited to approximately 12 minutes in three sections, with two artists sharing a DVD. Five kiosks were fashioned from natural wood and simple instructions helped the viewer navigate the menus.

Executive Director, Ken Rollins said, "You can now have virtual visits to the studios of ten artists held in the Museum's collections; hear them talk about their life as an artist, understand their influences, and watch them work... I know of no other museum using this technology in their galleries."

The kiosks have been a big success with the public. With practice and persistence, we have evolved the process of delivering this type of quality production on a surprisingly reasonable budget. According to museum officials, the grant application for this concept was met with enthusiasm. Please view these excerpts from two of the artist profiles we produced. Leslie Neumann
Grand Kitchen Website DesignLeslie Neumann is a transplant from New York city. She came to Florida's west coast and fell in love with the salt marsh wetlands around a tiny village called Aripeka. Her story of self discovery is as interesting as her unique style of painting with hot wax .
